Long Term Care

Long Term Care Photo

Long term care provides medical assistance to help with the monthly cost of care to eligible Dorchester County residents who live in a long term care facility, or nursing home.

Eligibility for Long Term Care is based on family assets and income. To be eligible assets must not exceed $2500. Unlike other Medical Assistance Programs, with Long Term Care a lien may be placed on your home property. Also, you must verify all assets owned 36 months before you apply. For married couples, we evaluate total combined resources to determine the community spouse's share. All monthly income, less disregards, must be paid to the nursing home. A community spouse may be entitled to a spousal allowance (from the income of the spouse in the nursing home) based on the community spouse shelter expenses.
